Windlass Mechanism

The windlass mechanism is the foot’s own arch support mechanism. It comprise the plantar fascia that is attached to the heel and the base of the toes. When walking, the heel comes up off the ground and the big toe joint bends, this tightens the plantar fascia and raises the arch of the foot.
