Shin splints is the common name given to a condition that is called medial tibial stress syndrome. It is an overuse injury that is common in the legs of those who run a lot. The most common risk factors for this problem are running form and poor foot biomechanics. The pain is usually felt along the medial border of the shin or tibia bone. Initially the pain is only preset during running, but later is painful after running. Most common treatments for shin splints is the use of foot orthotics and modifications to the training routine.
